National Seniors Day

Today is National Seniors Day in Canada. It is meant to celebrate seniors and the invaluable contributions they have made through all aspects of life. Between our two Elim Village campuses we have over 700 residents, all of whom deserve to be celebrated. According to Statistics Canada, by 2030 around 25% of Canada’s population will be 65 years or older (Statistics Canada, 2018). That’s less than 15 years from now!

Much of the history we learn is through the stories of our elders, as they represent the lives of our seniors and the experiences that younger generations can only imagine. These stories should not be taken for granted as they have shaped our future and should be valued and passed down for generations to come.

The city of Surrey is hosting free events to help acknowledge those that have shaped the world we live in today. Take a look at what they have and try participate: https://www.surrey.ca/community/27333.aspx. If you can’t make it to any of the events, demonstrating respect and gratitude is simple. Try doing something nice for a senior in your life – a little goes a long way.

At Elim Village we strive to provide a safe and caring community for seniors and help them through the different stages of life since frankly, they deserve it! Happy National Seniors Day!
