2017 Ed Helfrich Long-Service Excellence Award

On behalf of the staff and residents of Elim Village, we would like to congratulate our Board Chairman, Tom Crump on his recent achievement of receiving the BC Care Providers Ed Helfrich Long-Service Excellence Award for 2017. Tom has been an Elim Board Director since 2012 and Chair for the past several years.

The award was presented at the BC Care Providers Annual Awards Ceremony in Victoria, BC in February. The Honorable Terry Lake, Minister of Health, hosted the ceremony.

The Ed Helfrich Long-Service Excellence Award is defined as:

a member owner/operator or a member employee/contractor who has a 15+ year industry track record of developing and delivering quality care for individuals in care.

Throughout his 40 year career, Tom has worked hard to advocate for seniors, families and care administrators in a variety of ways. Educating MLAs on issues impacting continuing care, policy reviews and consultation with the health authority, spearheading review groups of new care models and initiatives, and supervising the construction of new care homes are just a few of Tom’s many accomplishments within the care sector.

Over the years, Tom has served on the Health Employers Association of BC (HEABC) affiliates committee, as a member of the Care Aide Registry Advisory Committee, and has held several senior administrative positions at multiple hospitals. In addition to his work with Zion, Tom has also been a prominent leader for Bethshan Gardens, an independent seniors living home in Surrey, since 2010.
