Today, a Butterfly Release was held across B.C. to commemorate seniors who passed away due to COVID-19. Elim Village Fleetwood participated in the event and gathered to honour the eleven Full Care residents who passed, as well as those who survived. The event provided space for reflection, and room for the heart to acknowledge and grieve the loss of life experienced during the challenging fall and winter months.
Butterflies symbolize many things, including new life and transition. The quiet release of these delicate beauties was a meaningful act for the family members, staff, and residents present.
This event was coordinated together with the BC Care Providers Association
and EngAge BC. Care homes from across the province participated, all releasing butterflies at the same time.
