We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Pastoral Counselor. The Pastoral Counselor provides compassionate assessment, treatment and care to residents, family members and staff from a Christian Faith Based perspective within the interdisciplinary process of Full Care. In the provision of care, the Pastoral Counselor will identify and respond to both individual and communal needs according to professional standards. As a part of the Pastoral Team, the Pastoral Counselor responsibilities include the provision of spiritual and emotional care appropriate to the Full Care setting and end of life contexts in assigned areas.


  • Degree in Counselling, Theology, Social Work or related discipline
  • Education courses/training relevant to spiritual care
  • At least two years’ experience working within a long-term care setting
  • Education, training and/or experience relevant to end of life and spiritual care
  • Training and/or experience working with older adults


  • Sensitivity and ability to work with spiritual, religious, cultural and socio-economic diversity in the care of residents, families and staff
  • Genuine sensitivity and empathy towards individuals and their families coping with end of life
  • Excellent active listening, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member
  • Able to generate rapport rapidly with a wide diversity of residents and those close to them
  • Committed to personal, physical, spiritual, emotional and intellectual well – being and development
  • Strong understanding and compliance with the principles and practice of confidentiality
  • Clear understanding of the palliative care philosophy and end of life care at Elim Village
  • Able to uphold ethical and professional standards and behave in a manner that upholds the values, standards of care and faith heritage of Elim Village


  • This position is subject to union membership with BCGEU
  • While the provisions of the SSO are in place, the wage leveled hourly rate starts at $35.65
  • This is permanent part-time position at 30 hours per week
  • This vacancy is subject to the requirements of a Single Site Order (the SSO) issued by the Fraser Health’s Medical Health Officer further to the Order issued by the Provincial Health Office on April 10, 2020
  • While the SSO is in place, the successful applicant to this position will be limited to working in one (1) long-term, assisted-living, or mental health facility
