JOB SUMMARY

According to established policies and procedures, and under the general direction of the Wellness Supervisor,  assists with the delivery of established resident-centered activity programs such as; creative arts, fitness, music, baking, meal programs, gardening, outings, social events, cognitive programs, one to one visits, group games, sing-a-longs, hymn singing, reminiscence, and discussion groups as included in our calendar. The Recreation Aide will support residents as they learn new techniques which are adapted to encourage participation and maintain or improve each resident’s abilities, and reports problems and/or changes to supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preferred 1 year recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in therapeutic recreation or related discipline
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certificate
  • Preferred Carefit Certificate or Third Age Fitness Certificate, or related fitness training
  • Pre-employment medical and criminal check are required

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Assist with the portering of residents to the visitation center and / or the different events within Elim
  • Engages families by calling them to book appointments and visitation times for the residents
  • Assist with the different initiatives to maintain residents and families connected and communicated, including assisting with video calls, care packages delivery, and other as needed
  • Aides resident’s participation in activity programs such as arts and crafts, music, active games, social events, cooking, gardening and exercises as directed
  • Ensures that residents have proper assistive devices with them as required, ie. hearing aid, cane
  • Assists with the promotion of upcoming events
  • Promotes community involvement through liaison with volunteers and organizations, families and friends
  • Prepares areas for activities, maintains recreation equipment, reports unsafe or faulty equipment to the Assistant Wellness Manager and keeps activity areas safe, clean and tidy
  • Observes and reports any changes in resident’s functional and cognitive behavior to the nurse on duty
  • Reports any witnessed falls or incidents to Nurse and Assistant Wellness Manager
  • Informs RN and Assistant Wellness Manager and documents any concerns regarding abuse of a resident or staff
  • Performs other duties as required/assigned

NOTES

  • Per contact the starting hourly rate is $21.62
