Nurse’s Week

The International council of Nurses (ICN) began celebrating International Nurses Day in 1965, and less than 10 years later May 12th was chosen as the official International Nurses Day. This day was chosen because May 12th is the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, who is said to be the founder of modern nursing. In 1985, negotiations began with the federal government to have a week dedicated to nurses. Shortly after, the second week in May was proclaimed as National Nurses Week with May 12th still being International Nurses Day.

This year’s theme #YESthisisnursing was carried over from last year. At Elim we are proud of the work our nurses do and it shows through the many compliments from residents and family and this is something which we at Elim are very proud. It is important to celebrate the nurses and all that they do on a daily basis. The hard work and dedication all the nurses put in does not go unnoticed. Here’s to you! Head over to our Facebook page.
