International Women’s Day 2019
Meet Marnie. She is the Care Manager for Elim Village and works with both Assisted Living and Independent Living residents. She is a remarkable woman who has paved her way throughout her career. Aside from her commitment as a wife and mom to three kids, she’s working full-time in the care industry while actively pursuing her Bachelor of Commerce degree.
Having been inspired by her mother’s stories as a psychiatric nurse, Marnie pursued a similar path. Unbeknownst to her, she soon realized her passion in caring for seniors.
To Elim’s benefit, Marnie joined the nursing staff at Elim in 2005 and due to her strong leadership skills, it soon opened doors for a promotion as team lead. Through the years, the Assisted/Supported Living environment has evolved. The threshold is higher, the needs are greater and more complex. Marnie’s involvement in the leadership team has proven to be pivotal in working through these challenges; expanding care services to Independent Living and helping to develop a team with the ability to deliver a high level of service to seniors. Additionally, Elim recognizes Marnie’s valuable contribution to The Emerald’s receiving of Exemplary Standing by Accreditation Canada in 2017.
Marnie is highly revered by her staff, the families of our residents and colleagues alike. When asked, “What advice would you like to share with other women?” Her response was, “Know your priorities and never lose sight of it. Don’t underestimate your abilities, ultimately believe you can do it and just go for it.”
Marnie, you’re an inspiring woman and thank you for all the work you do to make a positive difference at Elim Village!
