On Saturday, October 16, 2021, two residents of Elim’s Assisted Living building, the Emerald, tested positive for COVID-19. Working together with Fraser Health, the building was classified as being under Enhanced Monitoring.
Elim immediately initiated several precautionary safety measures, including testing staff and residents for COVID-19 as appropriate. Test results produced an additional positive resident case, and the Emerald was re-classified to Outbreak status on Monday, October 18, 2021.
These bullets provide information from the last 24 hours:
- As of October 23, 2021 at 5:07pm, there are two new cases to report: both are resident cases.
- Due to further investigation, it was learned that the staff member case reported on October 22nd was not a result of this outbreak, and the individual did not have an infectious period in the Emerald. As per Fraser Health, this case is no longer considered part of the Emerald outbreak numbers.
- In total, there are nine resident cases connected to the Emerald outbreak, and no staff cases.
- There have been no deaths.
Elim continues to work with Fraser Health to manage the risk of COVID-19 in the Emerald. Outbreak safety protocols are in place, including the suspension of in-person social visitation, communal dining, and group activities. Wide-spread staff and resident testing is underway, the results of which will determine the next steps for the building.
In the event of a new resident case, the resident primary contact will be immediately contacted by phone with the news. For Assisted Living, most primary contacts are residents themselves, who can then share the news with family at their discretion. Where special care considerations are needed, residents have identified alternative primary contacts to be notified in their stead.
