For Norm and Anne, who recently moved into The Hawthorn at Elim Village Garrison Crossing, the deciding factor was their desire to start enjoying their retirement and stop worrying about mundane chores and everyday stressors.

“We knew it was time to start looking at retirement communities because everything was getting more difficult, like cutting the grass,” Norm says. “We had so much upkeep at our home in Cultus Lake and it became a lot of work.”

“We ended up hiring someone to help with the upkeep and maintenance,” Anne adds. “But at the end of the day, I didn’t want us to have to worry about any of it anymore.”

Why The Hawthorn at Elim Village Garrison Crossing?

Deciding to make the move to a retirement community is only half the battle, as Norm and Anne quickly found out. It can be hard to decide which community is the right one, but having a clear picture of what matters most to you can help you make the right decision.

“When we were looking to move, I went on the Internet to look at what senior communities were available in Chilliwack,” Anne says. “The kids wanted us to move to South Surrey to be near them, but this area was too hard to give up. When I was looking at the other communities, I didn’t love the look of them.”

“When we visited The Hawthorn, Donna (from the Presentation Centre), did our tour and she was so patient and terrific with us,” Norm says.

“After our tour we both looked at each other and said ‘YES!’” Anne says with a smile. “I love a clean, bright space, and that’s what The Hawthorn is. We wanted to keep our doctor, and we did, and they’re right down the road, which is amazing! We’re also super close to a grocery store, eye doctor, and other shops.”

What has stood out at The Hawthorn since Anne and Norm moved in?

“We love going down for lunch and getting to choose where we sit,” says Anne. “Over time, we found a group of people we enjoy sitting with regularly, and we’re always laughing!”

“When new people move in, or if someone is sitting on their own, we always invite them to join us,” Norm adds.

“But my favourite part about living at The Hawthorn,” Anne shares, “is the feeling of safety. Where we were living before required a vehicle, but because Norm no longer drives, I was also left wondering ‘what if something happens to me?’ But here at The Hawthorn, someone is always here to support you. All you have to do is call down to the concierge desk and they organize whatever you need. It’s all here!”

“The Hawthorn has exceeded our expectations,” says Norm. “Just have a tour, you’ll fall in love with it too!”
