A Very Merry Christmas at Garrison Crossing

Christmas might only come once a year, but the celebrations last all December at Elim Village Garrison Crossing!

“We spend a lot of time carefully planning festive events and activities for ELIM residents to join in all month long,” says Katie, the Community Life and Wellness Coordinator at Elim Village Garrison Crossing. “Seeing the community come together throughout December brings out the holiday spirit in both staff and residents.”

The holidays kicked off early December, with residents sipping hot chocolate, savouring fresh-baked goods, and mingling with their neighbours, all while enjoying music from local carollers. ELIM’s CEO, Ron Pike, joined in as well to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

Residents are also encouraged to bring the festive spirit to their suites with outdoor lights and indoor decorations. And what better way to encourage this than to host a Christmas centrepiece workshop at ELIM’s ‘Independent Plus’ building, The Hawthorn! Residents were invited to create their own fresh, Christmas centrepiece to take home to enjoy in their suites, and they turned out beautifully.

“The Christmas centrepiece workshop was very nice!” shares ELIM resident, Diane. “I have mine sitting on my kitchen table!”

Katie also challenged residents in a fun, light-hearted way, by organizing a friendly Christmas trivia competition, with festive-themed questions such as “What year did candy canes first show up in stores?” and “What is the No. 1 Christmas song of all time?” It was a hit!

ELIM residents also had the opportunity to attend church services held onsite at The Hawthorn on Dec. 10 and Dec. 17 to celebrate the beginning of Advent. This lively environment built on faith and community is what makes Elim Village Garrison Crossing a top pick for older adults ready to embrace a new chapter in their lives.

“It’s been wonderful to witness our ELIM community come even more alive during this holiday season,” shares Katie. “From all of us at Elim Village Garrison Crossing, we wish our Chilliwack community a very Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Years!”
