Lisa Bysterveld, BCCPA Award Nominee
The B.C. Care Providers Association (BCCPA) holds an annual awards event each year to recognize and celebrate the inspiring work of staff working in care settings for older adults. One award given is the Care Provider Award of the Year in Assisted Living. Member care homes from across the province nominate employees who demonstrate an exemplary commitment to quality, compassion, and excellent care. BCCPA reviews the dozens of candidates and then determines their selection of four nominees. ELIM is very proud to share that staff member Lisa Bysterveld was nominated as one of the selected four!
Lisa Bysterveld is a Licensed Practical Nurse Team Lead in Elim’s Assisted Living building (The Emerald) at our Fleetwood campus. Lisa has made a daily difference in the lives of Elim residents for years, and she also makes a difference in our staff team; she’s a teacher and mentor to those she works with, and always has an upbeat and positive attitude.
“No matter the situation, Lisa is always ready to take it on!” says one colleague. Lisa is involved with many initiatives within Elim, including being on the Health & Safety Committee and the Collective Agreement Negotiating Committee. Lisa has also received an ‘Umbrella Award’, which is given as a result of peer-to-peer recognition in acknowledging and celebrating employees who go above and beyond and exemplify Elim’s mission.
Lisa is unbelievably dedicated and caring. For years, she has made it part of her practice to write a heart-felt and thoughtful farewell for each resident discharged from The Emerald. This write-up is posted for other Emerald residents to read, and also shared with relevant staff. In these farewells, she comments on a resident’s attributes, reflects on their time spent at The Emerald, and honours each one individually. They are very special to read and bring important closure for many people.
Lisa’s warm smile is contagious, and even with her busy schedule, she takes the time to get to know each resident and listen to their stories. In addition, not only does she Team Lead for the Emerald building, but she also goes into the Independent Living community when needed. “Lisa is always upbeat and smiling. She is a great leader!”Lisa has been involved in many initiatives and is profoundly appreciated by her colleagues. To read more about the BCCPA’s annual awards, visit their website.
